#LoveTo Draw

Over time the collection will become alive with drawings and be an opportunity to explore Carlow through the eyes of the artist.

#LoveTo Draw Carlow is a project that encourages people to draw their surroundings which over the course of 4 weeks will create a visual description of Carlow today. The project involves collaborations with individuals from diverse backgrounds to draw some images of their surroundings and make connections in the community. Art materials and sketchbooks are provided for this project. Important note: This project is for people 16 years and over. The sketchbooks will remain with the project, to enable the drawings to be monitored, protected, and archived for the exhibition. The works created will then go on to a curated exhibition in the Glucksman Gallery in Cork in November 2020.

Who is involved?

This project is led by Take a Part Carlow in partnership with Voluntary Arts Ireland and Glucksman Gallery Cork.

The drawing groups involved are Take a Part Carlow, Carlow Older Persons Forum, new communities from Syria & Rohingya Community.

What is the theme?

Drawing Our Communities (based on the works of Carlow artist Frank O' Meara (1853-1888) we would like to take you on a journey to learn to draw in plein-air style (drawing and painting outdoors) and capture our surroundings in Carlow based on Frank O’ Meara’s early days drawing what he saw: buildings, river, bridges and nature.

You will be introduced to a series of three workshops throughout August/September where you will learn to trust your creative voice and contribute new works for a curated exhibition in the Glucksman Gallery Cork in November 2020.

We will support you through a Facebook page with all the necessary information, tutorials, and ideas. We will send links and further information once you have booked. You can book your place at: takeapartcarlow@gmail.com or phone 087 2292656
