ABOUT THE #LOVE TO DRAW PROJECT
#LoveToDraw Ireland is a project developed by Voluntary Arts Ireland in partnership with the Glucksman Gallery Cork, Artlink Donegal and Take A Part Carlow.
The project is funded by the Arts Council of Ireland/An Chomhairle Ealaíon and was inspired by Drawn Together Wales.
#LoveToDraw involves artist-led drawing workshops with a range of community groups in Carlow, Donegal and Cork City and an exhibition showcasing the visual results from these workshops at the Glucksman Gallery during December 2020. The project aims to promote drawing practice as a route to personal development, community cohesion and fun.
The Love to Draw project also took inspiration locally from the life and works of the great Carlow artist Frank O’ Meara (1853-1888) whose work was inspired by drawing his communities around Carlow.
The group are learning to draw and create a visual description of Carlow, from their own perspective. We invite them to take time out of their day to day lives and draw what they can see. Over time we hope the collection will become alive with drawings and be an opportunity to explore Carlow through the eyes of the artist.
The sketchbooks and art will remain with the project and become their own collection.
Who is involved?
The drawing groups involved are Take a Part Carlow, Carlow Older Persons Forum, new communities from Syria & Rohingya Community.
What is the theme?
Drawing Our Communities (based on the works of Carlow artist Frank O' Meara (1853-1888) we would like to take you on a journey to learn to draw in plein-air style (drawing and painting outdoors) and capture our surroundings in Carlow based on Frank O’ Meara’s early days drawing what he saw: buildings, river, bridges and nature. A series of workshops will be held throughout Autum where you will learn to trust your creative voice and contribute new works for a curated exhibition in the Glucksman Gallery Cork in November 2020.
Participants will be supported through a Facebook page with all the necessary information, tutorials, and ideas. You can book your place at: takeapartcarlow@gmail.com or text 087 2292656
Looking forward to working with you all!
